Pediatric Dentistry

A pediatric dentist has had additional training (a minimum of two years beyond dental school) and the Pediatric Dentist and team are dedicated to helping children, from infants to teenagers (and their families), properly care for their teeth and gums and learn how to establish and maintain good dental health.

Being an age‐specific specialty, pediatric dentists receive extensive training in child specific skills such as behavior guidance, care of the medically and developmentally compromised and patients with special health‐care needs, supervision of orofacial growth and development, caries prevention, sedation, pharmacological management and hospital dentistry. These skills are applied to the needs of children throughout their ever‐changing stages of growth and development and to treating various conditions and/or diseases unique to the growing individual.

Because children are growing and changing so rapidly, establishing a dental home early (as soon as teeth are present and no later than age one) provides the best opportunity to intercept problems before they become serious and typically leads to children having fewer dental concerns as they mature.

Our Office

Pediatric Dental Associates’ office is set up with fun activities for children, such as various playrooms (some with pre‐loaded, age‐appropriate video games) and exam rooms with TV monitors set up above each chair so that the patient can watch an age‐appropriate movie of their choice. Having a child‐friendly environment is an important aspect of taking the stress out of a child’s dental visit and everything about our office has been designed with that in mind.

We serve patients from all over the East Tennessee region, so give us a call at 423-587-1421 to schedule an appointment. The office is open Monday – Thursday 8:00 am to 5:00 pm. Fridays are reserved for out-patient surgical cases.

Just look for the big elephant out front!
